"Monasteries and Monastic Complexes" Book - series
The History Museum of Armenia has started to publish a new series "Monasteries and Monastic Complexes" /in Armenian and English/.
The purpose of this initiative is to present important and unique examples of the architectural complexes of famous medieval religious and cultural establishments in Armenia, with old, mainly unpublished photographs from the collections of the History Museum of Armenia, combined with present-day photographs, ground plans and brief texts, characterizing a monument.
The series is envisaged not only for the public at large, as acquaintance and reminder, but also the parallel placement of the old and recently made photographs may contribute to the professional study of the material and to the solution of problems of preserving and restoring the monuments.
The first edition of the series, "Haghartsin" album-catalogue, was published recently.
The album - catalogue presents architectural structures of the Haghartsin monastic complex (10th - 13th centuries), with their old, mainly unpublished photographs (1920 - 1936) kept at the History Museum of Armenia and those made presently. The specimens have brief professional and bibliographical data.
