On October 7th, the opening ceremony of the “Lisitsyan-160” exhibition took place at the History Museum of Armenia, dedicated to the ethnographer’s jubilee.
In his opening remarks, Davit Poghosyan, Director of the History Museum of Armenia, highlighted Stepan Lisitsyan’s invaluable contributions — not only to the development of museology, but also to Armenology, ethnography, and pedagogy — emphasizing the importance of his multifaceted legacy.
Ethnographer Lilia Vardanyan, the academic’s granddaughter, noted in her speech that the exhibition presents a wonderful opportunity to re-explore Lisitsyan’s activities and to showcase the results of his dedicated scientific work.
Opening remarks were also given by Suren Hobosyan, PhD in History and the head of the Ethnography Department at the Archaeology and Ethnography Institute of the RA National Academy of Sciences, as well as Naira Manukyan, the principal of the Stepan Lisitsyan Primary School (No. 34) in Yerevan, who stressed the importance of Lisitsyan’s activities and the legacy he left — both in the development of science and of education.
Afterwards, Artak Asatryan, head of the Ethnography Department at the History Museum of Armenia, presented the life and scientific work of the famed ethnographer, highlighting his significant contribution to the development of Armenian ethnography.
Within the scope of the event, the archival collection of S. Lisitsyan in the History Museum of Armenia was replenished with a few artifacts donated by Lilia Vardanyan.
In the “Stepan Lisitsyan-160” exhibition, manuscripts, archival photographs, materials from field research, and personal items are showcased.
The exhibition will run for one month.
