Another interesting lecture will take place as part of the temporary exhibition “Mother Goddess: From Anahit to Mary” in the History Museum of Armenia. The lecture entitled “The Golden and Bronze Statues of the Goddess Anahit: Image and Iconography” will be delivered by Hasmik Margaryan, a researcher at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.
The event will take place on 16 November at 17:00. Attend and discover the mysterious cultural heritage of ancient Armenia.
The speaker will present the main features and characteristics of the religious content and iconography of Anahit, the main goddess of ancient Armenia.
The Roman author Pliny the Elder and early medieval historians testify to the ancient golden statue of Anahit, which was placed in the famous temple of Yerez in the province of Yekeghyats. On the basis of the data obtained, the speaker will present an iconographic reconstruction of the statue. The second attempt is based on the artistic-stylistic analysis of a bronze statue attributed to the goddess Anahit from Satala.
The results of the stylistic and historical-cultural comparative analysis of two monumental statues will be presented.
After the speech, participants will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition “Mother Goddess: From Anahit to Mary”.
