What are the main rituals and customs that accompany a woman through different stages of life in relation to the idea of motherhood? Which traditional wedding rites have both rational and belief-based elements aimed at ensuring fertility? These and other related questions were discussed during a panel held on April 4 at the History Museum of Armenia, ahead of Motherhood and Beauty Day. The discussion was titled “Motherhood and Childhood: Traditions, Rituals, and Modern Perceptions.” The panel discussion was moderated by Arusyak Ghazaryan, Deputy Director for the Museum Branches. The speakers included: historian and ethnographer Susanna Melikyan; PhD ethnographer Armine Sargsyan; PhD in psychology and Associate Professor Mariam Mehrabyan; and Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, obstetrician-gynecologist Karine Arustamyan.
Happy Motherhood and Beauty Day!
