At the History Museum of Armenia, the International Day for Monuments and Sites was marked by a panel discussion titled “Monument–Community Relations: Opportunities and Challenges.” The speakers were Hamlet Petrosyan, Head of the Department of Cultural Studies at Yerevan State University, and Harutyun Vanyan, Head of the Department for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia. The panel discussion was moderated by Nzhdeh Yeranyan, Deputy Scientific Director at the History Museum of Armenia. The speakers addressed the four-sided stela that was accidentally discovered in 2025 in the community of Lernahovit, as well as the recent excavations there. They also discussed the increasing involvement of local communities in Armenia in recent years in the preservation and presentation of cultural heritage, the challenges related to the protection of various monuments, and the measures implemented by the Government of Armenia. Additional topics included the preservation specifics of open-air monuments, abandoned churches, and khachkars, as well as the application of international best practices in heritage conservation. At the end of the panel discussion, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers on issues of personal interest.
