IN-MUSEUM PROCEDURE FOR THE ACCESS OF THE COLLECTIONS OF THE HISTORY MUSEUM OF ARMENIA
- GENERAL PROVISIONS
1.1 This Procedure for the Access of the Museum Collection (hereinafter referred to as “the Procedure”) of the “History Museum of Armenia” SNCO (hereinafter referred to as “the Museum”) has been established in accordance with the Order of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia No. 140-A dated 1 April 2010, based on the normative acts regulating the sector and the Charter of the Museum.
1.2 The Procedure establishes the rules and conditions for the access of the collections stored in the Museum’s repository for scientific research and other purposes specified in the Museum’s Charter, which are also mandatory for the Museum’s staff.
1.3 The duties and responsibilities of the relevant employees for fulfilling the requirements of organizing the access of the Museum’s collections provided for in this procedure are established by the order of the Director of the Museum.

2.3 Permission to use Museum objects and collections is granted by the Director of the Museum on application. The application must be addressed to the Director and must state where the applicant works and where the research is being carried out. The application must include the name of the research programme or topic, the final result of the research and data on the study of the Museum’s collections (Appendix 1). Applications may be submitted in-person or electronically.
2.4 In the case of legal entities, the application must be submitted by the head of the organisation.
2.5 The applicant will receive a response on the granting or refusal of museum objects and collections within five working days, whether in-person or electronically.
2.6 Services for researchers are provided at the Museum in a dedicated office and during the working hours set by the Museum: Wednesdays and Thursdays, 14:00 – 15:00.
2.7 The Museum may restrict the availability of Museum objects and collections if
- a. their conservation is unsatisfactory;
- b. they are undergoing restoration or are on display;
- c. there are special contractual obligations with the owner or donor of a particular object or collection;
- d. scientific research and other activities planned in the Museum’s programme are being carried out by researchers for the purpose of studying and examining museum objects and collections.
2.8 The provision of Museum’s objects and collections, their reproductions or digital copies to natural and legal persons for publication, filming, copying, exhibition, and certain other purposes is carried out on the basis of a contract, on a paid basis, in accordance with the tariffs for the provision of paid services approved by the order of the Director.
2.9 Taking high-quality photographs of items during maintenance is prohibited. Low-quality photographs may not be published.
2.10 The right to use reproductions of the Museum’s objects and collections for the purpose of selling alcoholic beverages, tobacco, advertising, and other services must be agreed with the authorised state body.
2.11 The Museum provides information about the Museum’s objects and collections free of charge, in a format determined by the Museum and only for scientific, educational, cognitive, and public awareness purposes.
2.12 The provision of information about museum objects and collections by museum staff is agreed in advance with the Museum’s Director or Deputy Director of Science and the Chief Curator.
2.13 The use of the Museum’s objects or collections for scientific, educational, scholarly, publishing, exhibition, public awareness, or other purposes agreed in advance with the Museum must be accompanied by a reference to the Museum.
2.14 Museum registration documents are not subject to photocopying and copying for servicing purposes.
2.15 For the purpose of studying museum objects and collections, the Museum will also allow the applicant to use related catalogues and open access electronic resources, and the Museum will also assist the applicant in searching for information of interest.
2.16 It is not permitted to take photographs or video recordings of a museum object during handling, unless prior arrangements have been made with the Museum.
2.17 If the applicant relies on the Museum’s collections for 50 % of their research or other work agreed with the Museum, one must inform the Museum in advance and carry out their activities on the basis of a contract with the Museum.
