On October 24th, a lecture entitled “Leather Restoration and Conservation” was held at the History Museum of Armenia, given by Dr. Christian Heinrich Wunderlich and Heiko Breuer, restorers from the State Museum of Saxony-Anhalt and the Restoration Laboratory.
In his opening remarks, Nzhdeh Yeranyan, Deputy Scientific Director of the History Museum of Armenia, thanked the guests for their collaboration and sharing of professional experience, highlighting the importance of such events for the preservation of cultural heritage and the widening of international collaboration.
The speakers presented the ways of conserving wet and dry archaeological leather, touching upon their implementation in both exhibition and storage conditions. They also spoke about the methods and techniques of restoring archaeological leather, also giving professional advice about the long-term conservation of the shoe discovered in the Areni-1 cave.
A question-and-answer session was held after the lecture.
