On October 15, the History Museum of Armenia hosted a workshop titled “Archaeological Tourism for Development in Armenia: The Restoration of the Garni Mosaics and Armenian-Italian Activities in Dvin and Aruch”.
In his welcoming speech, Davit Poghosyan, the Museum’s Director, emphasized the importance of such workshops in preserving archaeological heritage and fostering international collaboration. He noted that the Museum consistently supports initiatives that contribute to scientific research and the promotion of cultural heritage.
In her speech, Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, emphasized the significance of the workshop in strengthening friendly relations and deepening collaboration between Armenia and Italy, while also expressing gratitude to the embassy and partner organizations.
In his welcoming remarks, Alessandro Ferranti, the Ambassador of Italy to the Republic of Armenia, noted that the Armenian and Italian peoples are united by a shared cultural heritage spanning thousands of years. He added that archaeology is not only a rediscovery of the past, but also an opportunity to look toward the future with greater hope.
The speakers presented the results of the restoration and preservation work on the Garni mosaics, carried out by specialists from the Opificio delle Pietre Dure and the University of Florence. They also shared the results from archaeological research conducted in Dvin and Aruch, as well as the prerequisites for developing archaeological tourism in Armenia.
