the History Museum of Armenia opened a fascinating exhibition “The Phenomenon of the Jar in the Funeral Rite: The Culture of Jar Burials in Antique Armenia,” organised in cooperation with the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography NAS RA.
Davit Poghosyan, Director of the Museum, Arsen Bobokhyan, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography NAS RA, and the exhibition curator Armine Gabrielyan gave speeches.
The burial jars found by chance from the excavations of various Armenian archaeological sites (Garni, Nor Armavir, Metsamor, Nerkin Naver, Mastara, etc.) are presented with their accompanying property: pottery, metal, jewellery and other items.
As part of the exhibition opening, the History Museum’s collection of 400,000 objects was replenished with an archaeological specimen of historical value donated by the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography NAS RA.
After the opening ceremony, a workshop was held on the culture of jar burials.
