Armen Davit Sahakyan, Captain (1994, Ijevan – October 28, 2020, Mataghis).

Admitted to the Vazgen Sargsyan Military Institute, Armen volunteered in 2014 to serve in Artsakh, stationed in Jabrayil/Mekhakavan/. As the commander of the mortar platoon of the 3rd rifle battalion, he played a vital role in the defense. Armen demonstrated exceptional courage during the April Four-Day War in 2016, earning recognition through the “Medal of Courage” and the Memorial Medal of the Earth Guard. His dedication and leadership led to his promotion to the rank of captain in 2018.

On September 30, 2020, Armen left for Artsakh with his battalion. Following the unfortunate loss of the detachment’s commander upon arrival, Armen assumed command in Mataghis. He carried out combat tasks, actively engaging in the fight and providing encouragement to his crew. Armen, displaying remarkable courage, used to express, “If I come back from the April war, God is with me, nothing will happen.” Armen harbored dreams of moving with his family and residing in Jrakan. He held aspirations involving a girl named Mariam. However, on October 28, his fate took a tragic turn. He was wounded in a firing position by an enemy drone strike, and subsequently, he and six of his soldiers lost their lives in the 2nd anti-aircraft missile attack. In recognition of his dedicated service, Armen was posthumously awarded the “Combat Service” medal.
