On 29th August, through a joint initiative by the History Museum of Armenia and the ‘Megerian Carpet’ Cultural Complex, the solemn ceremony of cutting and donating the carpet that had been woven there for several months took place in the exhibition hall entitled ‘Fragments of Identity: Carpet’. The opening remarks were delivered by the Director of the Museum, Davit Poghosyan, and the Director of the “Megerian Carpet” Cultural Complex, Raffi Megerian, both of whom emphasised the role of the initiative in the preservation and dissemination of carpet-weaving traditions. Following this, Lilia Avanesyan, PhD in History and researcher at the Ethnography Department of the History Museum of Armenia, presented the peculiarities of the original sample — a silk embroidered cover from Artsakh dating to the 17th century — and explained the symbolism of its ornaments. The participants of the event also had the opportunity to take part in the carpet-cutting ceremony. A donation agreement was signed between the History Museum of Armenia and the ‘Megerian Carpet’ Cultural Complex, after which a certificate of appreciation was presented on behalf of the Museum to the ‘Megerian Carpet’ Cultural Complex for its support and collaboration within the framework of the exhibition ‘Fragments of Identity: Carpet’.
