On March 4, at 18:00, within the framework of the exhibition entitled “The Secret of the Land: Artashat at the Crossroads of Cultures”, a lecture on the topic “Coins and Seals in the Ancient Burial Rites” was held at the History Museum of Armenia.
Armine Zohrabyan, Ph.D., Researcher-Curator of the Department of Archaeology of the History Museum of Armenia, gave a speech.
During the speech, the significance of the use of coins and seals in the funeral rites of ancient Armenia and the main groups of coins found in the tombs were presented. The meaning of coins in the ritual is due to the fact that they were a symbol of abundance, prosperity, and wealth.
Seals are often associated with the status of the buried. The study of seals and coins in the context of the burial ritual complements the mythological ideas of our ancestors and their neighbours about the afterlife, the eternal life.
On the same day, the exhibition “The Secret of the Land: Artashat at the Crossroads of Cultures” was replenished with a new exhibit.
