Gegham Albert Avetisyan (July 1, 2000, Gegharkunik region, Karchaghbyur city – October 8, 2020)

From 2007 to 2019, Gegham undertook his education at Ara Grigoryan Secondary School in Karchaghbyur. With a penchant for sports, he excelled in chess. In 2019, he embarked on the next chapter of his academic journey, gaining admission to the Faculty of Management and Technology at NUACA. In July 2019, Gegham answered the call of duty and was drafted into the Armenian army to defend the borders of his homeland. Endowed with knowledge and esteemed for his character, he earned the respect, love, and trust of both his fellow soldiers and command staff. As the war unleashed by Azerbaijan unfolded in 2020, Gegham actively participated. His combat friends attest that he bravely confronted the challenges, engaging the enemy with his BMP-1 armored vehicle and inflicting significant losses on both human and armored vehicles among the Turkish forces. On the night of October 7-8, Gegham was recognized as a hero, and his comrades-in-arms observed that 19 of their fellow servicemen were surrounded by the enemy. Displaying unparalleled courage, they launched a counterattack, saving the lives of the 19 servicemen with precise shots but tragically sacrificing their own. On October 8, 2020, Gegham met a hero’s end.
