Hovhannes Sosik Avagyan, colonel, deputy commander of the Armenian Armed Forces (November 30, 1973, Yerevan – November 7, 2020, Shushi)

Hovhannes attended N126 School and then went to Physmath School, where he graduated with a gold medal. He attended the finance and credit department of the University of Economics between 1990 and 1995, where he graduated with a red medal. After that, he attended Sargsyan Military University from 1995 to 1996, and he graduated with honors. From 1996 to 2001, he served in Artsakh, where he held various positions, from platoon commander to battalion commander in Mataghis, Talish, and Stepanakert. He got married and has three daughters named Nelly, Mane, and Evelina Avagyan. Between 2001 and 2003, he studied at the Frunze Military Academy of Moscow State University and graduated with a red diploma. From 2003 to 2004, he worked as the head of the programming department of the RA Ministry of Defense. From 2004 to 2013, he was the commander of military units in Vanadzor, Vardenis, Berd N, and other places. Between 2013 and 2017, he served as the Deputy Commander of the 1st Army Corps and Chief of Staff. From 2017 to 2019, he studied at the Moscow General Staff Academy, where he graduated with a medal. Between 2019 and 2020, he served as the Deputy Head of V. Sargsyan Military University. In 2020, he became the Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Artsakh (Deputy Minister). He passed away on November 7, 2020, in Shushi.
