( 13.07.2001 – 21.10.2020 )

Hovik Varuzhan Veranyan (13 July 2001, Gagarin – 21 October 2020, Hadrut)

Hovik received his secondary education and continued his studies at Sevan State College, specialising as a programmer.

In 2019, he was drafted into the army and served in the Mugni Air Defence Unit of Ashtarak. He was awarded many honours, medals, and orders, such as “Best Athlete”, and “Medal of Courage”.

In 6 months after entering the service Hovik was transferred to Artsakh.

It was this unique young man who saved several of his wounded comrades to escape from the siege.

After serving in Hadrut for 2 months, the war began. Hovik fought in the hottest spots. He fought for the defence of the Motherland. He was twice encircled and successfully escaped. Hovik told his relatives that he was in a safe place and nothing threatened him. Once again, when asked by his family what they were doing, he replied that they were shooting at birds, referring to the enemy. Hovik, a humble man by nature, never spoke of his bravery, exploits and hardships; he carried out the mission proudly and selflessly. He fell heroically for the Motherland. All his dreams remained unfulfilled… Hovik dreamed of becoming a programmer and achieving many successes even outside Armenia.

He was posthumously awarded the «Medal of Courage».
