Karen Sasun Hovhannisyan (May 14, 2002, Voghjaberd, Kotayk region – October 9, 2020, Shushi).

In 2008, Karen enrolled in the local secondary school. In 2014, he joined the dhol (drum) department of the music school and simultaneously took cooking classes intending to become a chef. Karen completed his schooling in May 2020 and, just a few days later, on June 16, he was drafted into the army. Karen was known for being friendly, hospitable, willing, humorous, respectful, and a devoted brother. He was eager to join the army, expressing his desire by saying, “I should go soon, come back soon to realize my dreams.” Unfortunately, those dreams were abruptly interrupted. He served in the city of Hadrut for four months when the Second Artsakh War erupted. Despite keeping the intensity of the conflict hidden from his parents, after participating in the 44-day-long battle, he lost his life on November 9, the last day of the war, in a fierce fight for Shushi.
