Travellers of the Eternal: Gor Tumanyan
Gor Seyran Tumanyan
( 28.08.2000 – 23.10.2020 )
Gor Seyran Tumanyan (August 28, 2000, Ashtarak, Aragatsotn region – October 23, 2020, Artsakh, Varanda (Fizuli)) was a participant in the Armenian-Azerbaijani 44-day war. In addition to his studies at school, he pursued music education, with his mother being his first teacher. Gor was admitted to the academic vocal department of the conservatory. Drafted into the Armenian Army in 2019, he stood out and shone brightly in every field.
Gor earned several prestigious titles and awards throughout his life. He was honored as an honorary citizen of Ashtarak and Barcelona. His achievements extended to international competitions and festivals, where he secured numerous accolades, including 1st place at the “Tenor World Association” competition and the “Grand Prix” award at the international music festival “Harmonia.” Soldiers affectionately referred to him as Athlete Gor, Singer Gor, and Builder Gor. Even Jalal Harutyunyan personally commended Gor for his fortification efforts on the front line, with commanders recognizing him as a dedicated and capable soldier. Gor harbored two significant dreams: to sing at Italy’s La Scala theater (for which he had received an invitation), and to establish a music school, appointing his mother as the director. Today, Seyran Tumanyan’s father is actively working to realize his late son’s second dream. A cultural center is currently under construction in the heart of Ashtarak, dedicated to the memory of Gor Tumanyan. The center, where Gor’s mother, Marine Mnoyan, will serve as the director, will also house a museum dedicated to Gor. Gor Tumanyan lost his life on October 23, 2020, during intense combat operations in Varanda, witnessed by his father, Seyran Tumanyan. In recognition of his bravery and dedicated service, Gor was posthumously awarded the “For Courage,” “Combat Service” medals, and the “Brave Warrior” badge of the Republic of Artsakh.
