On November 26, the History Museum of Armenia will open a new exhibition, The Coin in Armenia: Times and Relations,” dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the national currency of Armenia.

Armenia is one of the countries of the ancient world where social development led to the need to use coins relatively early. In some historical periods, the coins of various, foreign conquerors were in circulation, and in some periods, the Armenian kings had their own coinage, which, in addition to fulfilling its economic function, was a manifestation of political and cultural progress. Today, old Armenian coins, being an irreplaceable historiographical source, are simultaneously perceived by the public as a remarkable historical and cultural phenomenon, a unique symbol of national identity.

In this exhibition dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the RA Dram, a group of original and representative examples from the large and rich numismatic collection housed in the History Museum of Armenia is presented, which gives an idea of the Armenian coins of ancient, medieval, and modern times.

It should also be noted that with the support of the RA Central Bank, exclusive examples from the bank’s collection will be presented.
