HISTORY MUSEUM OF ARMENIA

Pectoral

The pectoral is crescent-shaped with the single images of stylized birds at the ends. Schematic images of three trees of life are between the birds, in the centre of the ornament. The trees are edged by a narrow ornamental band of triangles from above and below. At the lower edge of the breast plate is a floral band of alternating lotus flowers and buds. The prototypes of depicted trees come from the Urartian art and have their parallels in Persepolis high-reliefs. The adornment is a marvellous example of jewellery art.
